Plano East theatre named finalist for DSM awards

Plano East High School Theatre has been named one of the finalists for the Dallas Summer Musical (DSM) High School Musical Theatre Awards (HSMTA). Out of 79 performances and 75 high schools, PESH made the cut in 10 out of 17 total categories for their performance of ‘Rent.’

They have been nominated for: best featured actress-Ruth Mbugua, best featured actor- Jake Allen, choreography, best lighting design, stage crew, best scenic design, best musical direction, best supporting actor-Aaron Starkwalker, best ensemble/chorus and best costume design.

Patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the DSM HSMTA celebrate the power of the arts and its ability to significantly improve all areas of education.  As the second largest program of its kind in the country, the DSM HSMTA recognize artistic and educational achievements of North Texas and Oklahoma students and their high school programs. A three-judge panel of entertainment industry professionals and veteran educators evaluates productions.
