The price of trash service in Murphy increases in May after contracts are prepared and executed with a new provider, Republic Services of Plano.
Murphy City Council held a workshop prior to its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 6, to review bids from five companies seeking the municipal contract. The city had contracted trash pickup with Waste Connections, formerly Progressive Waste Solutions, for the past five years and was notified that fees would likely increase this year.
Bidding for the contract were Republic, Waste Connections, Community Waste Disposal, FCC Environmental and Waste Management.
Finance Director Nancy Montgomery reported that a staff committee was formed to review bids and make recommendations to the council. Items considered included frequency of service, company experience and financial stability.
