Waxahachie police arrested a 20-year-old suspect in a string of robberies in the North Texas area, including the Whataburger restaurant in Murphy, last week after allegedly committing a robbery there.

Under questioning by police, the suspect admitted to robbing 14 fast food restaurants and convenience stores, Murphy Police Chief Authur Cotten said.

The Whataburger in Murphy was robbed about 4:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 when a man entered the restaurant, brandished a semi-automatic handgun and forced the restaurant manager to open the store safe, the chief relates.

The suspect fled the restaurant in a late model Dodge charger with about $2,000 in cash and then reportedly drove to Irving and committed two more robberies.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, two suspects robbed a gas station in Palmer, went to a Whataburger but found the lobby locked, and showed up in Ennis to hit a Waffle House restaurant, Cotten said.
