A pair of Murphy Police Explorers were named 2017 Kyle Kucauskas Scholarship Foundation recipients.

Mackenzie Richlark and Anabel Brandon each received $1,000 to go toward college tuition.

“I’m very grateful for being selected. It’s truly an honor to be considered and then presented with the scholarship,” Mackenzie said.

Anabel added, “It is an honor to be a recipient and I can’t even explain how grateful I am.”

Kucauskas was a Murphy Police Sergeant who died in March 2013.

While with the department, Kucauskas was a police officer, detective and sergeant, and he was involved in the development of the Citizens on Patrol and Volunteers in Policing Service.

Mackenzie, an 18-year-old graduate of Plano East Senior High, has plans to attend the University of Texas at Dallas in the fall to study cyber security.
