A group of local men are in the early stages of a grassroots effort to bring package liquor sales to the city of Murphy.

The driving force for the petition is DAWGS of Murphy, a group of 427 men who belong to a closed Facebook group consisting of city leaders and residents.

In research for the proposed packaged store, DAWGS formed a sub-committee consisting of residents outside the club.

“We (DAWGS of Murphy) usually meet at restaurants for dinner and then the cigar shop. If we want to drink liquor outside of the restaurants we have to drive to the city of Plano to purchase packaged alcohol,” JT Oden II, manager of the petition effort stated.

According to Oden, liquor stores would not be owned by any members of the group. Right now they have nine people that aren’t members that are pushing for the project.
