Survivors, caregivers, friends, relatives and students will have a chance to relay all night April 29-30 in hope of raising awareness and funds for cancer research at the 8th annual Relay for Life event.

The Tri-city event will be held at Sachse High School this year. It will run from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. The theme is Olympc Relay- OneWorld, One Hope.

For the event, Wylie, Sachse and Murphy teams will relay in an organized, overnight, community fundraising walk. Participants can sign up as part of a team with team members taking turns walking around the track throughout the evening and early morning. Much like years past, a band will perform, speakers will be featured and, of course, there will be food, games and activities.

“We want people to know that even if they are not on a team, this is a community event and the community can come out and participate by supporting the teams, buying food, or bidding on auction items,” Pamela Baker, RFL marketing volunteer said.

This is a signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Monies raised for the American Cancer Society go to aid those with cancer in a variety of ways from transportation assistance to lodging during treatment, breast cancer support and much more.

As of press time, according to the relayforlife.org, there are 27 teams and 185 participants registered for the Wylie/Sachse/Murphy event, raising an estimated $19, 602.62 to date.
