Williams sophomore Martha Brown smashed an 18-year-old school record this past Thursday, when she won the girls’ 1600 meters in 5:09 at the Ron McNeil Invitational, which was four seconds faster than the previous mark (5:13 by Michelle Hurn).
Brown’s performance was one of many excellent ones turned in by members of East’s girls’ and boys’ teams at the meet, which also featured competitors from other schools such as Plano, Plano West, Allen and Lake Highlands.
The PESH girls finished fifth overall with 63.2 points, with Allen (193) winning the meet. East’s boys (83) were third behind Allen (194) and Plano West (125.5).
On the JV side, East’s girls (99.5) and boys (131) each took third, with Allen’s girls and boys taking the respective top spots.
Plano East will return to action Friday, March 18 at the Carrollton Farmers Branch Relays.
