The potential construction of two new businesses in Murphy was a hot topic of discussion during the Jan. 19 city council meeting.

They were presented with two items for consideration, a Smiles at Murphy dentist office and a retail center.

The dental practice is currently renting an office and their lease is up at the end of the year.

The council voted unanimously to send both issues back to Planning & Zoning for further work.

P&Z voted against both requests during their Dec. 28, 2015 meeting.

The first request was an application by Anshu Jain to amend a concept plan for approximately 6.43 acres of property zoned Planned Development located on FM 544 west of Heritage Pkwy.

Following the Jan. 5 council meeting, after considering feedback from the city council, residents and P&Z, the applicant met with staff to discuss site options.

A revised layout was drafted that proposed the driveway going east and connecting with the neighboring property.

Staff decided the new proposed layout created the access necessary for public safety while minimizing the concrete increase to the north of the applicant’s property.
