PLANO, TX – Senator Van Taylor was today awarded a 100 percent voting record from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)/Texas on legislation impacting small businesses. A leading small business association, NFIB has 24,000 Texas members representing a cross-section of the state’s economy.

“With over 60,000 businesses in our district, I am constantly inspired by the passion and dedication of our job creators to tackle the risks of starting their own business and investing in our community,” stated Taylor. “The formula is simple: jobs come from small business, not big government. It is the hard-work, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit of our small businesses, that have propelled Texas to become the leader in jobs and economic opportunity. It is an honor to be recognized by NFIB and I will continue to fight government overreach that strangles job creation and threatens personal liberty.”

During the 2015 legislative session, Senator Taylor helped pass historic tax relief that included a 25 percent cut of the business franchise tax. This legislation also allows small businesses the ability to use the EZ computation, which would minimize the time and paperwork needed for compliance. The franchise tax is an especially punitive tax as it taxes gross receipts and is tremendously difficult and costly to comply. In their 2015 rankings of state business tax climate, the non-partisan Tax Foundation ranked Texas 39th amongst states based on their relative tax burden. The study noted that if the margins tax were to be repealed, Texas would have ranked 1st in business tax climate.

“Senator Van Taylor understands and values the true backbone of Texas’ economy, small business owners, and the impact public policy changes will have on these owners’ abilities to own, operate, and grow their businesses,” said NFIB Executive Director Will Newton. “Lawmakers who vote with small business during session are fulfilling their campaign promises to keep the Texas economy robust, as small businesses account for 96 percent of all businesses in the state.”

Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB gives small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’s powerful network of grassroots activists sends their views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system. NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. For more visit: http://www.nfib.com/texas/news-information.
