High school students have been preparing to take the PSAT, which will be administered this month in Wylie, Plano and Garland ISDs.

The PSAT is designed for 10th and 11th graders, although students as young as 8th grade can take the test.

Kerry Gain, Wylie ISD curriculum director, said the College Board offers a suite of assessments. Tests are offered seven times over the course of a year.

Tests take three hours and 45 minutes and consist of 10 separately timed sections. Three sections focus on critical reading, three sections test mathematics, three sections test writing and one variable (unscored) section tests critical reading, mathematics or writing.

The test includes multiple choice, student produced responses in the mathematics portion and essay questions.
