The body of a former National Football League player from Murphy was recovered Monday night in Lake Lavon after being reported as missing Sunday evening.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department divers recovered the body of JaJuan Dawson, 37, near Clear Lake Park.
Dawson was on a rented boat with three children and two adults Sunday evening when he reportedly fell overboard and did not surface.
Rescue efforts started Sunday and were continued Monday. Agencies participating in the effort were Collin County Sheriff’s Office, TPWD and Wylie Fire-Rescue.
Dawson was not wearing a life jacket and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Five other people were on board the boat. No other injuries were reported.
Dawson was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2000 as a receiver and played three years for the Browns and Houston Texans. He worked in sales for Boston Scientific.
