This week, Harper Lee, legendary author of “To Kill a Mockingbird” released a landmark new novel. In her new title “Go See a Watchman,” the main character, Scout, is an adult and returns home to visit her elderly father. This book imparts a fuller, richer understanding and appreciation of Harper Lee. The author was born in Monroeville, Alabama in 1926. She is Pulitzer Prize winner and her book was a bestseller for more than 40 weeks. The movie starred Gregory Peck and won an academy award for best actor in 1963. The library has copies of both books and the movie in print and e-book.
Summer Reading Club continues through July 30. If you read 25 hours, you get your name in the hat for a drawing of select prizes. Reading logs are due July 23. The grand finale of summer reading will begin on July 28th with In N Out Burger providing free burgers from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until all supplies are gone. For teens and tweens, the last program will be a cupcake decorating program at 2 p.m. Registration is encouraged for this event. You can register by calling the library or dropping by during library hours and signing up. The last summer program of the year will be Cathy’s Critter’s petting zoo at 11:00 a.m. on July 28th. This event will be outside the library and feature farm animals. Everyone is invited to attend this fun and educational finale of Summer Reading 2015.
