If you’re over 55 and you’ve got some time on your hands, there is plenty to do in Wylie. Not only can you join the recreation center and participate in a multitude of activities and exercise classes for citizens of all ages, the Senior Center has loads of additional events on tap. Most events are free with the exception of the trips, and those are only $5.

Are you the kind of person who likes to have fun? Well, Manic Mondays Karaoke Contests continue. Upcoming contests dates are July 20 and 27 from 1-3 p.m.

Creative people can participate in totally 80s crafts in July. Bedazzle bandanas July 15, make friendship bracelets July 22 or make your own iron-on T-shirt creation July 29. If you like to stencil, act fast and join the July 15 class and learn to create a one-of-a-kind treasure to keep or share. Got a sweet tooth? Bakers can gather together July 27 to learn the sweet art of making a variety of edible treasures.

For the seniors who like to travel, there’s still time to register for the July 23 visit to the Rockwall Historical museum to view the collection of furnishings, photographs or artifacts from the past. The trip is $5 and you’ll need to bring money for lunch. If you enjoyed the TV show “Dallas” register to take the July 30 trip to tour the Ewing mansion and the museum of memorabilia.

If cards are more your style, all month-long there are games of Blackjack, Poker and Texas Hold’Em being played each Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If an exercise oriented activity is on your list, the Wii bowling group plays a simulated game of bowling several times a week. Not interested in that, participate in group exercise, chair yoga, Zumba or line dancing. In addition the center has treadmills, recumbent bikes, elliptical machine and various hand weights available for use.

Sr. Rec Center IDs are available at no charge for ages 55 + at the Senior Recreation Center. Gain access to Open Play activities and Fitness Area. Review rec pass terms of use, facility rules and guidelines prior to sign up.

Bus pickup to and from the Senior Center is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Wylie residents. The center is located at 800 Thomas Street in Wylie. To register, go to [email protected].
