Hope everyone had a safe and happy Independence Day! We are so blessed to live in a country of the brave and the free. We had Fun Night on the third and enjoyed the parade and fireworks from inside our center away from the mosquitos and heat. It was a grand evening.
Laurie Schwenk came to visit us last week, which is always a delight. She is the lady that started the gathering of the seniors back in 1985. Our building is named in her honor. She now lives in Sun City in Georgetown.
We were closed last Monday, since we had to work on Friday to get all the parade and fireworks organized, so Tuesday felt like Monday, etc. I have been a day late all week.
Tuesday is always a busy day with the balance class starting the day, line dancers took us up to lunchtime. We made the most beautiful greeting cards in the afternoon craft class.
Wednesday was a game day and Founder’s Plaza sponsored our delicious lunch of spare ribs, baked beans, pickled okra and peanut-butter cookies.
Thursday was our balance class, games and story time with Janelle. Her stories are always interesting and amusing, but this week she was unable to make it. Her water heater sprung a leak and flooded her house, so she was busy cleaning up. We will look forward to next month. Senior Care-Beltline sponsored our lunch.
Friday is the day we relax, play games, eat leftovers or bring our own lunch. Sometimes we show a movie.
Now let’s look at next week. We will have our monthly book club in the morning and our Fun Night in the evening.
Monday will be our game day with other activities. The AARP Smart Driving Class is from 9-1. This class will get your vehicle insurance discounted and you will be taught the latest in driving rules and laws. This is all classroom, no driving tests. Please call 972-495-6282 to register.
Tuesday will start with balance class followed with line dance. Don Evans will be here to expand our horizons with information we need to know.
Thursday will start with our balance class and lunch will be served.
Friday is games and relaxation day. The county nurses will not be here again until October. The Health Department is busy during the summer getting children ready for school in August.
Remember age is a number and old is an attitude, so live your life and forget your age. Until our next visit I’ll keep the door open.
