The month of June finished on a grand note and I will try to catch you up. We did the usual activities – exercise, eat, play games, eat, have interesting seminars, eat, visit with the county nurse, eat and take a trip to eat. It seems we all reach a point when the mind and the body want to part ways and one of them wants to dominate the other. Some of have sharp minds and the body gets weak, while others have good bodies and the mind becomes weak. In either case we spend the later years trying to keep them together and that is what we do at the center. We have a small workout room to keep your body active and we play games and socialize all day to keep our minds active. The media keeps telling us: Age 80 is the new 50! I don’t like to dispute that, but I think it takes a little more effort to make this happen.

I hope each of you had a safe holiday. This was a short week for us, as we took Monday instead of Friday off for the holiday.

Last week we enjoyed lunch and a lecture on Medicare. Tuesday, Lance Thayer, renowned radio personality, presented a much needed seminar of the who, how and when to handle your money during your senior years.

Tuesday is always a busy day with the balance class, line dance, bridge students and games. We are also going to have a craft class on this morning. Rowlett Health Care will sponsor lunch for the day. Our computer class will meet in the afternoon.

Wednesday we played games and had lunch.

Wednesday we will celebrate America’s birthday with our monthly potluck. Charles McGee, a talented vocalist, will be here to entertain you, This will be a grand celebration and our new stereo system is in place.

Thursday we celebrated our July birthdays with a fine lunch and bingo. They played Chicken Foot dominoes in the afternoon along with other games.

Friday was a holiday for many, but we had city activities that day, so we were closed on Monday July 6. Friday took us to Walmart for our monthly supplies and visit. Friday night we enjoyed Fun Night inside where it was cool as we watched the parade form at the center and march up Miles Road. Later, we were able to view the firework display

Thursday we will play games in the morning and then we look forward to play ‘Remember When’ with Rick and his staff. This certainly keeps our minds sharp while having so much fun. Chicken Foot dominoes will be played in the afternoon.

Now for next week: Monday is game day and, of course, our free bakery products from Kroger’s. If you like to try different breads or have a sweet tooth you need to come by any day Monday through Thursday and pick up your desire for the day. The price is right.

Friday the games will come out and Book Club will meet in the morning. This is the day we bring our lunch or eat leftovers. At 6:30 p.m. we will gather for Fun Night. Bring a finger food/ snack and join us for the evening.

Remember to forget your age and live your life. Until our next visit, I’ll keep the door open.
