Armstrong Middle School parents recently received a solid education on substance abuse and how to talk about it with children.
Greg Thomas presented the “No No Not My Child” program to a room full of parents Tuesday Oct. 27.
“ It is a program that our school district provides through our Family and Social Services Department,” Armstrong Principal Steven Ewing said.
Discussion topics included how to talk with children about drugs; the temptations a child may experience; what parents can do if their child tells them they know someone is using and how to intervene with a child who is using.
“We encouraged parents to bring questions or ask questions that are important to them,” Ewing said. “We opened this up to all of our parents in the community.”
The program ran in conjunction with Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign that brings alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness.
